Residents and their families are invited to participate in the Sixth Annual Mayors’ International Bike Ride on Saturday, October 22 and enjoy the beautiful scenery in the desert southwest.
This free family-friendly ride moves at a leisurely pace, is guided by area public safety agencies, and includes stops every four to five miles.
This year the ride will start at the Yuma Civic Center and stop at Cocopah Korner, Somerton City Hall, Friendship Park in Gadsden, and St. Jude Thaddeus Church in San Luis. The ride concludes with a celebration at the Benito Juarez Park near San Luis Rio Colorado’s City Hall.
Mayor Nicholls and leaders from 4FrontED founded this event to unite communities and highlight the region. This year’s ride is hosted by the mayors and elected officials from the cities of Yuma, Somerton, San Luis, Wellton, and San Luis Rio Colorado, Yuma County as well as the Fort Yuma Quechan and Cocopah tribes. Community leaders will be on site to welcome and encourage riders along the way.
Registration will begin at 7 a.m. at the Yuma Civic Center parking lot (1440 W. Desert Hills Drive) and the ride will start at 8 a.m. that same morning.
Please note that those under 18 years old will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian, and proper documentation for border crossing is required by all, if they opt to cross the border to the finish line.
At the conclusion of the event, Yuma County Area Transit will help transport riders back from San Luis, Arizona to the Yuma Civic Center (however, space is limited).
Participants are encouraged to coordinate a ride home after the race, unless they wish to ride their bicycles back to Yuma.
